With the changing of the season comes the changing of the hours at a few places here in the village.
Granite Hall is now open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Starting next Monday, Sept. 18, King Ro will be going to “winter” hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Friday night dinners will be starting up again on Oct. 13. Yes, Friday the 13th! Tentatively, we are thinking about a full turkey dinner to kick off our second year of dinners. We will be serving from 5:30-8 p.m.
The Round Pond Coffee Shop will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting this week and open Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As other businesses contact me with hour changes or closing dates, I will be sure to include it in the column.
All summer I have enjoyed driving by Nancy and Nate Hanna’s house and seeing Nate’s traps adorned with Nancy’s plants. They always look so bright and cheerful. That is real Maine ingenuity.
For many years, I have heard people debating whether or not excess amounts of acorns mean we are in for a very hard winter. My grandfather always told me that if there is a tremendous amount of acorns and they are still around come the first snowfall, it would be a mild winter because the squirrels and chipmunks have not cleaned up and stored the nuts. This year, the oaks don’t seem to be shedding as many acorns as in past years. I wonder what that means in terms of snowfall?
Quote of the week: “There are people out there who would love to have your bad days.”
