It is hard to believe that Christmas is on our doorstep. The weather is cooperating somewhat, giving us a little coating of the white stuff. We have received so many wonderful Christmas cards this year, which I have to admit makes me feel a little guilty because I stopped doing them a few years ago. But we certainly do like getting them, and we would like thank everybody that has sent us one.
Round Pond Coffee will be hosting “Caroling and Cookies” this Friday, the 22nd of December. The Round Pond Carolers will begin at Round Pond Green at 2 p.m. and then proceed to Round Pond Coffee for more caroling while warming up with coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies. All are welcome.
Sarah Herndon, of Granite Hall Store, is having her yearly sale. All this month she has had percentages taken off of the prices, but this week you draw a percentage from a hat. From past experience, having drawn as much as 40 percent to 50 percent off, it is a sale that you won’t want to miss! Granite Hall will be closing for the season on Friday at 5 p.m. It is open all week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
King Ro will be serving dinner this Friday night, Dec. 22, but we will not be serving on Friday, Dec. 29. This week we will have lasagna and haddock chowder, served with salad and oatmeal rolls. The desserts will be Key lime cheesecake and chocolate mousse.
The White Church will be holding its normal Sunday morning service on Dec. 24, but will also have the Christmas Eve service that evening at 7 p.m. I remember so well the excitement, as a child, at the Christmas Eve service and concert. There was always a beautiful live tree with gifts for all of us kids underneath. We had a very jolly Santa Claus that handed out the presents and made it special for all of us. Rossford, you are still missed!
If anyone would like to serve Cornish game hens for Christmas dinner this year, you are welcome to come to our house and take all of the pigeons you would like. I think that they could pass for poor man’s Cornish hens. We have well over 35 at our feeders on a daily basis now and my patience is running very thin.
A very Merry Christmas to everyone, and may the new year bring much happiness to all.
Quote of the week: “Kindness makes you the most beautiful person in the world, no matter what you look like.”
