Last week of school
By Aysel Fraser
The last week of school often speaks of fun and games at South Bristol School. This year is no disappointment.
Artists in Residence, as we call it, is a series of projects spanning all the unified arts and more! This year we are doing theater, including improv, movement, which will be games and dance, art, making puppets and set design, and drumming, which falls under music.
The grades are put in groups and rotate through the events that day. Artists come to SBS to teach and it is truly an amazing experience!
Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. there will be a performance showcasing all the students have worked on during the week! It is open to the public.
Coastal Rivers
By Aria Larrabee Cotz and Edith Jonason
The grades 3-4 have been going to Coastal Rivers each month! Last month we searched for living fossils! This month we spent all day at Plummer Point learning about forest and water ecology! It was an amazing experience for the third and fourth graders!
Social studies in grades 3-4
By Annabelle Waltz and Olivia Bennett
Grades 3-4 are doing a project in social studies on the Maine counties. We are making cardboard museum exhibits that show what it would be like if we went there. We are also teaching about the history, common jobs now and in history for our counties, and what visitors to the county might do.
You can come visit our Maine Counties Museum before or after the Artist-in-Residence performance on Thursday evening.
Goodbye, Mr. Hamm
By Aria Larrabee Cotz
Mr. Hamm is retiring and the school is sad! Fourth grader Edith Jonason said, “Mr. Hamm was the best principal I ever had!” Olivia Bennet, another fourth grader, added, “Mr. Hamm was so kind! We all loved him so much!”
Outing Club’s trip To Acadia National Park
By Lainey Thibodeau
From Friday, May 31 to Saturday, June 1st, Outing Club from SBS took an overnight camping trip to Acadia National Park.
We had two days full of hiking, biking, eating too much chocolate, scary stories, exploring, and more! We hiked 1.5 miles to get to the top of Mt. Penobscot with a stunning view. We biked on the carriage trails for quite a while, and went over 2 bridges, one built in 1931, and the other in 1932. They both had stunning views as well. It was such a great experience, but I bet we all slept in a bit the next day!
A shoutout to The Lincoln County News
By Deb Thibodeau, Advisor
It is hard to believe that another year has passed. I would like to share my sincere gratitude to The Lincoln County News for affording our students the opportunity to publish their own writing about what interests them. Whether facts about what is going on at the school to opinion pieces, this has created a great opportunity for our students.
Thank you for dedicating your time and newspaper space for our students to showcase South Bristol School. We hope to see you all again next year.
And for all of the readers who have stuck with us, thank you to you, too! We love our community!
Have a great summer!
