Director’s note
Every day I’m proud of the work that we do here at Skidompha Library, but there are some weeks when my job is especially cool. This is one of those weeks.
I am delighted to announce that Skidompha Library has put into production the very first issue of our teen magazine, “EPOCH.” This magazine is created by and for teens, featuring creative writing, poetry, art, and photography all by students. Thanks to a very generous grant, we plan to publish new issues every quarter. For all you budding teen writers and artist out there: opportunity knocks!
In addition, we will be offering a free teen writing workshop during February vacation. This workshop will focus on the daily practice of writing, and self- and peer-editing, and will discuss what goes into selecting pieces for publication. Please see further details below.
The publication of “EPOCH” is just one example of the ways that we hope to use the resources available to us to serve you, our community, and make our region a more vibrant place. Stay tuned for even more programs and events in the coming months!
With warm wishes,
Pam Gormley
Executive Director

“If you’re alive, you’re a creative person.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert
Unleash your creativity and tell your story! In this four-day creative writing workshop, you will work with other teens interested in creative writing. We’ll play writing games and complete prompts to get your creative juices flowing. We’ll peer-edit, discuss style choices, and offer reflections as a group. If you’re interested in storytelling, this group is for you!
Sign-ups will begin in January. If interested, please email Skidompha Library Youth Services Coordinator Kelsey Gibbs at kgibbs@skidompha.org. This group is open to teenagers in ninth through 12th grade. Admission is free, but class size is limited to eight slots, so early registration is encouraged.
(Skidompha Library has been supporting our community since 1885 in downtown Damariscotta. You can find us online and view our full calendar at skidompha.org or on our Facebook page.)
