Dear readers,
This week, we are celebrating National Library Week. This year’s theme is “Libraries = Strong Communities.”
Skidompha works tirelessly to strengthen our community. Our work is diverse. Our staff answers Facebook questions on where to print double-sided copies in town (here!). We help you find the newest title from your favorite author (you know — that one with the blue cover). We provide meeting spaces, engaging lectures, a place to play with your toddler, a food pantry for teens, free high-speed internet access, and friendly faces to help you find what you’re looking for.
We are one of the last public spaces where there’s no entry fee or purchase required.
Here at Skidompha, you can just be.
Help us celebrate National Library Week! We have a program for everyone.
Interested in having fun with your child? Join us in the children’s section every week for Storytime with Jessie, our children’s librarian. We read, sing, and dance together every Tuesday and Wednesday morning, beginning at 10 a.m.
We’re also pleased to partner with River Company and the Waldo Theatre to offer a children’s theater workshop, for ages 7-11, for April school vacation. Please see our website, skidompha.org, for more information.
Interested in making a financial contribution to the library? Our Skidompha silent auction begins at noon on Friday, April 12; we’ll be offering an eclectic array of Huston Dodge antiques, cool Skidompha basement finds, and artwork. Alternatively, you could also pick up a book at our Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop, at 17 Backstreet Landing in Damariscotta, where 100 percent of profits always support Skidompha.
Interested in learning at the library? We’re hosting two Chats with Champions events on Tuesday, April 16: Mac Smith and Abdi Nor Iftan. Smith will be speaking about his book “Mainers on the Titanic” at 10 a.m., while Iftan will be speaking about his journey from war-torn Somalia to U.S. citizenship through his memoir “Call Me American,” at 5:30 p.m.
If you’re an independent learner, check out our quiet meeting rooms; they are free to reserve.
We always have things to celebrate at Skidompha. Join the party!
