How about this January weather we’ve been having? One day you see snow, the next day it’s gone. One day it’s wind chill of negative 5 degrees, the next day it’s 50 degrees. At least our days are getting longer.
At the station we have been without our tractor since Thursday. This will make things a little crazy if we have any snow. Obviously, our tractor gets used to help with snow cleanup and lots of other jobs. Hopefully we will be able to keep things snow- and ice-free if we do have a storm. Please be patient with us while our tractor is repaired.
We are working to encourage people to recycle everything we take. I do believe if we stay vigilant our recycling will increase and our cost for trash disposal will decrease. Thanks to all our customers who bring in their food waste (organics).
We are still receiving questions about the plastic that can be recycled. At this time, the only plastics we can take are #2 solid, or neutral and rigid plastics. All other numbered plastic, plastic bags, and Styrofoam go in the trash.
I’m going to throw out a figure for you to think about. It costs our towns about $105 per ton to dispose of our trash. That figure includes the hauling and disposal fees. We can’t reduce the price, but we can reduce the quantity. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Have a super week.
