Last week, Waldoboro residents had an opportunity to voice any law enforcement concerns directly to their police chief and members of his staff. This week, they have an opportunity to ask questions about any facet of town government during a candidates forum with the current chair of their board of selectmen and his challenger in the June election.
So rather than post your latest town-related gripe on Facebook, bring your question or concern to someone who can actually do something about it.
You know who you are.
If you stayed home from the police forum and you stay home from the candidates forum, yet continue to post gripes on Facebook, we may suspect that you do not really want a solution to your gripe, but just want something to gripe about to fill the emptiness in your life. Sorry about that.
As for everyone else, we hope to welcome you to the municipal building at 6 p.m. Thursday for a lively and respectful exchange of opinions.
Back to the police forum: The Waldoboro Police Department deserves credit for its proactive approach and communication.
We see more and more of this throughout the county: a new generation of law enforcement leaders aware they cannot arrest their way out of social problems and humble enough to interact with the public beyond traffic stops and seek its support.
We believe this approach will strengthen these communities and foster cooperation between the public and law enforcement.
