It’s tough times we are living in. Pick a subject, any subject it seems and we can find a problem to concern us.
However, this coming year there will be time and energy enough to spend on the issues before us and, while they are significant, they are not bigger than we are.
Right now, let’s take a moment to celebrate our friends and neighbors who make this a community.
Let’s remember the Family Holiday Wishes program, which year after year, continues to grow and help more children and families experience a little joy during the holidays.
Let’s remember the Community Energy Fund, which is just ramping up for the season and, like Family Holiday Wishes, grows each year to help more people in more places.
Let’s think about the outpouring of support for those eight horses rescued from horrendous conditions in Waldoboro; about the contractors and friends donating time and effort to fix a man’s roof in Dresden; about the neighbors opening their home to a Whitefield couple who lost their home in a fire Friday night.
Let’s remember the late Bill Earle, who gave more of himself than we ever knew, and continues to give, years after his sudden passing, with volunteers annually ringing the bell at the Salvation Army kettle in Damariscotta in his name.
Everywhere we look this holiday season we can find neighbors helping neighbors, fundraisers, benefits, and volunteers donating their unique talents. We are truly a community. Although sometimes it might be easy to overlook that, we shouldn’t: Not this year and not at this time.
Merry Christmas, from all of us to all of you.
