To the Editor:
The lupines needed their field and the village saved it for them.
A simple and at the same time a very old tale: The lupine field in Round Pond was put up for sale and the village rallied to save it.
They saved it the old fashioned way. They met together to pool their resources and ideas, and then did whatever was needed to inform as many people as possible about the urgency of the need for immediate contributions because of the impending deadline in the looming purchase contract.
Over time, their hard work was rewarded with over 500 people, big donors and little donors, contributing what ever they could and thus saving the lupine field.
The lupine field was saved in honor of those who went before and as a legacy for those who will come after. Well done Round Pond villagers and all the honorary villagers who helped make this outcome possible.
In so many ways, it has been a gift to us all.
