To the Editor:
I endorse Casey Stevens of Newcastle for Selectman.
Casey firmly believes that taxpayer dollars must be spent wisely and our town government must be truly transparent. Casey believes that Newcastle residents deserve a monthly accountability of funds spent by posting what is spent each month on the town’s web site and available as a handout at the town office.
Casey strongly believes that when a Newcastle taxpayer’s dollar is spent in any given month, the residents should know what that dollar bought or did at the end of the month. It is a great ideal and a great way to keep us, the citizens of Newcastle, informed on a monthly basis.
Casey believes in a simple yet powerful philosophy in dispersing taxpayer dollars: “How will this benefit the citizens of Newcastle?” Casey believes if it does not benefit Newcastle residents then don’t spend the dollar. He believes that every dollar matters.
We live in tough economic times and we cannot throw away our money.
We must be financially conservative at home and in government spending. Tax dollars spent today must be spent wisely for we all work too hard to see that dollar wasted.
I am a member of various volunteer committees in Newcastle I was extremely impressed with Casey’s view on town volunteers that serve on appointed committees. Casey believes that it is imperative that these committee members are listened to by the Board of Selectmen and that their rationale is listened to with an open mind. He said “they save the town a lot of time and money and do lots of footwork that the Board of Selectmen don’t have to do.”
Casey believes that all Board of Selectmen meetings should be broadcast on LCTV for all to view and will make sure this happens.
Accountability is important to Casey as a father and husband and it will be as a selectman. His parents taught him hard work and always to stand up for what he believes is right. His position as a Newcastle firefighter has taught him teamwork and a deep appreciation for life itself.
Running for public office is one of the highest expressions of citizenship. Casey Stevens wants to be a Selectman because he strongly feels he can make a difference. He is a man of common sense and practicality.
I endorse Casey Stevens for Newcastle Selectman because I know he will make a difference. I strongly hope that on March 30 you cast a vote for Casey Stevens like I and of my neighbors will. Thank you.
