Need an antidote to Monday’s debate?
Come to The Lincoln County News candidates forums Thursday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 13.
We are lucky in Lincoln County.
Supporters of both presidential candidates fear for the future of our country if the other candidate wins.
We have no such fears when it comes to our local legislative races.
We prefer – strongly prefer in some cases – one candidate over another, but we see positions and qualities to like in all our candidates. We know all our candidates will act in the best interests of the state, though we know they have different ideas about what constitutes those best interests.
We know this partly because in Maine we have a citizen Legislature.
It’s not a lucrative job to be a state lawmaker. If you have a full-time, minimum-wage job, you earn more than your local legislators do from their work at the State House.
There are no billionaires or career politicians among the candidates you will see at our forums. There are a carpenter, a fisherman, a scientist, some small-business owners, and several retirees. There are school board members, selectmen, and volunteers.
If you come to the candidates forums, we promise a civil discussion of relevant issues. You won’t hear about emails, bankruptcies, tax returns, beauty contests, or birth certificates.
What you will hear about are the candidates’ thoughts and plans for how to protect Maine’s strengths and solve Maine’s problems.
You can read more about the forums here. We hope you’ll join us.
