To the Editor:
This summer my life has been dramatically changed by a serious illness. It has been both alarming and disheartening.
In the face of this disease I have been astounded by the response of my family, friends and acquaintances who have stepped forward daily to help. I am so grateful to you.
You have called, you have written, you have cared. Those who have not cooked, have driven, styled and restyled my hair, even vacuumed my house. In the face of this illness, your caring and kindness have strengthened me, somehow softened the blow. I know your prayers have mattered.
It is clear to me that I live among very decent people.
I could not do this without you.
