We are expecting a loud Fourth of July.
Ever since the state legalized fireworks, would be celebrants and First Responders alike have had July 4 this year penciled in on their calendars. Independence Day is obviously the fireworks day of the year.
This year, private citizens obviously have reason to look forward to a celebration like no other. First Responders are just hoping no one gets hurt.
We urge everyone to exercise due caution next week.
We also add that while private consumption of fireworks, if there is a such a thing, is the buzz word this year, Independence Day is bigger than that. The meaning of Independence Day hasn’t changed.
It is not simply an excuse to lay on the adult summer beverages and disturb the neighbors. It’s a birthday party.
Remember this nation was founded by a group of rebels who had no legitimate reason to believe they could succeed. They had no money, no navy, and barely an army worthy of the term and they were squaring off against a world superpower.
If Colonial America versus The British Empire were a modern sports contest, Vegas bookmakers probably wouldn’t have even bothered to set the odds.
However, thanks to a lot of gumption, poor planning by the opposition, and a bit of luck, our Forefathers did succeed and laid the foundation for a future world superpower.
On Veterans’ Day, we remember and thank our veterans; Memorial Day – we pause for those who gave all. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for all we have.
Independence Day is a time to celebrate being an American. Happy birthday.
