To the editor:
As the mother of three teachers, I thought it might be a good time to get this letter out of my head and into print.
Our children are going off to school this fall and each year students will gain knowledge that will carry them through their entire lives. It is our free gift to all children. Your educators work to open your minds and teach you new skills you cannot get elsewhere. The short time you spend in school gives you the best chance to be anything that you choose the rest of your life.
What we ask of you is to take our taxpayer dollars and be the best in your own personal skill. The great thing about you is you alone make this journey; we help you. We ask you to honor yourself and those around you, be respectful under all circumstances, and rise above any adversity. It would also help if alcohol, drugs, and sexual mischievousness be left out of your personal school life. I didn’t say anything about courtesy and kindness, but you can figure that out yourself.
Here’s to your future,
Franciska Needham
