To the Editor:
In the past two weeks, Lincoln Theater has presented three incredibly magnificent ballet productions. The first two were different versions of the ballet “Swan Lake.” In the first we were treated to the marvelous choreographer and dancer Rudolph Nureyev as he partnered the ever-exquisite Margot Fonteyn: a partnership made in heaven! Having seen them perform many times, I was still awestruck.
The second version of “Swan Lake” was spectacular in its own way following the original Petipa choreography. In addition to the ballet, the audience was shown back stage photography as well as interviews with the lead dancers and producer.
The final production was of the challenging ballet “Giselle.” Here we viewed the quintessential romantic ballet with its story, music, and choreography. While all of the dancing was sheer artistry, it was the lead ballerina who exhibited superb technique and acting ability. She was a consummate performer.
All three ballets were wonderful and viewing them was total joy. The only sad aspect was the size of the audience, “too small.” What a shame to have missed this great opportunity.
A huge thank you to Lincoln Theater!
