To the Editor:
I want to thank Buzz (Pinkham) and Bill (Clark) and their army of volunteers who made Pumpkinfest 2011 another success for our community. Many of the volunteers took time off from work at their own expense to ensure the festival was a success.
I am sure I speak on behalf of all local businesses who were happily busy during this time. The Pumpkinfest is a wonderful way for families to become familiar with our area. Many of my summer customers now take their vacation over the Columbus Day weekend to enjoy all that the Pumpkinfest has to offer.
A complaint in last week’s LCN about the traffic was superfluous and callous in regards to the unfortunate accident at the end of the parade. The letter writer asked that signs be put out warning people of traffic tie-ups and there were!
Digital signs were placed days prior to the Pumpkinfest on both northern and southern Rt. 1 warning of traffic delays.
What great clean fun everyone had, with beautiful weather! I didn’t meet one person that weekend that wasn’t flowing with compliments about how wonderful the whole event was.
To the lady who is worried about pumpkins in the bay, they are biodegradable (and make great mulch too) and giant pumpkins are not grown for consumption. They are very tough and fibrous; therefore they make terrible pumpkin pie or breads. They are grown for weight for decoration and for fun.
Thanks once again, to all of you who worked so hard. I, for one, can’t wait until next year’s festival.
