To the Editor:
I have noticed the controversy that has developed yet again in the Town of Alna about where to take our trash. We had the same disagreement in 2004 and this was discussed and we had hearings and a special Town Meeting. The Citizens of Alna made the choice to stay with the Wiscasset Transfer Station.
The same reasoning is valid today to stay with the Wiscasset Transfer Station. It is double the miles one way to the Nobleboro Transfer Station.
With the price of fuel hitting the four-dollar per gallon price, we should be concerned about the amount of miles that we are driving. The change would not be a very energy efficient choice.
The average citizen leaving Alna to go to the transfer station will schedule their day to more than one stop. The trip to the transfer station in Wiscasset gives more chances to make it a one-trip choice. This will be the choice of the majority of the residents of Alna as energy prices rise.
Wiscasset Transfer Station offers convenience, cleanliness, and courtesy; I would like to encourage the residents of Alna to be at the hearing scheduled at the Alna Fire Station at 6 p.m. Thurs., May 19.
