To the Editor:
Whether intentional or not there has been some mighty unconstitutional statutes passed by our legislature. They, as most government officials at that level, have an oath to God to uphold the Constitution of the State of Maine.
The constitutional amendment that guarantees “We the People” the right to keep and bear arms is Article 1, sec. 16, which ever so clearly states…”Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms, and this right shall never be questioned.”
The legislators, in complete defiance of this constitutional protection, made it illegal for certain citizens to bear arms. The legislature passed T17-A Sec.393, an act that made it illegal for felons to own firearms. This may sound like a good idea until you see how easy it is to become a felon, which, by the way, is the fault of the legislature.
How? They are the ones who came up with the law that anyone who is convicted of a crime that is punishable by a term of one year and a day, or more, is a felon. (It used to be the sentence had to be 20 years or more.) This can be done by driving down the road: You could get a habitual offender, which is a class C felony, which is what the legislature passed. The creation of Sec.393 was in complete defiance of our constitution, but in total agreement with the agenda of government in general to disarm the citizenry.
I’ve talked to a lot of people and they thought that no matter how bad the legislature gets there’s really nothing that can be done until they talked to me for a while. They learned of the impeachment process, which is triggered by unconstitutional legislature for one. The correction process is much easier than you’d think. Try it.
