With a lengthy list of events, spread out over five days Olde Bristol Days may feel like the big dog among Lincoln County local summer celebrations, but, as the Damariscotta BluesFest proved last weekend, size is no prerequisite for fun.
There are plenty of events spread around the county this weekend, each and every one worthy of time and attention.
May we direct your attention to the North Nobleboro Day, an equally well established, long running community gathering at the North Nobleboro Community Hall on the Upper East Pond Road.
North Nobleboro Day features an auction, an outstanding country band and one of the best chicken barbecues around, although the fine folks behind Jefferson Day, coming up next weekend, can rightfully boast the same about their barbecue.
We suggest the gustatorily inclined to sample both and make up their own minds. It couldn’t hurt.
Also Saturday, there is Whitefield Day, featuring more food, games, a yard sale and a softball game; a blueberry festival at the DRA/Round Top Farm on Bus. Rt. 1 (upper Main Street) in Damariscotta and one of the more unique events on the Lincoln County calendar, Waldoboro’s Paint the Town; an event where artists are invited to capture scenes around town on Saturday for a same day sale at auction that evening at the VFW on Mills Street.
We wouldn’t expect any one person or group to rush around sampling everything going on this weekend. There is simply too much to take in and not enough hours to take it in, in. Besides, making a mad dash out of it kind of defeats the purpose of events like these, don’t you think?
In a way, like Bristol builds toward Olde Bristol Days, communities across the county seem to build up to this stretch of August when summer is winding down and schools prepare to opening.
Each community here is a gem in its own right and weekends like this are the time to soak it in.
