To the Editor:
On Jan. 27, the voters of Jefferson showed their approval of the Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) plan for the Lincoln County School System by an overwhelming margin.
I am deeply appreciative of their confidence in the School Committee, which has worked diligently to assure that the best interests of the students and the Town have been protected.
Thanks also go to Bob Bouchard, Superintendent of Union 74, and Frank Boynton, Superintendent of Union 132, for their support and assistance in this effort, and to Parker Renelt of Bremen who so effectively chaired the reorganization committee through the many months of meetings.
The administrative reorganizing will begin very shortly with our new partner schools. Bob Westrich, chair of the Jefferson School Committee, will be our representative on the AOS committee, and we look forward to having a cooperative and productive relationship with this group. The work will be intense as the new system must be up and running on July 1.
The Jefferson School Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month and always welcomes community attendance. It is with citizen and staff inputs that we can make the best happen for our school.
Thank you to all the interested folks who have taken the time to follow and participate in this complicated consolidation process. Your votes were very encouraging to us.
Ellie Day, Jefferson School Committee, Jefferson
