To the Editor:
It used to be you could go on an errand and leave your door unlocked. Or, perhaps, the wheelbarrow could sit in the front yard for days, before you got back to completing the chore.
Not anymore.
Over the past few years I have had several items stolen off my yard. A rake leaning against the barn, two stackable tables sitting in the lawn area, or a garden ornament.
The last straw was realizing that the copper birdbath was gone. It sat at the top of the hill, right by the front door. The base was broken and the bowl had a dent in it, but I liked it. It had meaning to me. It was a gift from someone who knew me and my love of gardening. It was given to me the year my mother died.
I am saddened by all this – we are no longer able to be comfortable in our own homes. I resent the intrusion into my home area.
I hope, whoever took these things, enjoyed them, but they probably tossed them away without a second thought.
Disheartened,
