To the Editor:
On the corner of our municipal lawn is a monument. Etched on that monument are the names of the many men and women of Wiscasset whose sacrifices have preserved life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the rule of democratic law for all of us.
Inside our municipal building are four selectmen who think it’s all a joke. They deliberately defy us, the townspeople, while taking our right to vote away. Their proposed town meeting is dishonest governing, period.
Wiscasset, the shire town of Lincoln County, is on the verge of losing its democracy.
If these four people were caught stealing from the town coffers, they’d be doing time in jail. They deserve no less for stealing our votes.
No one has asked them to spare a dime, just respect the wishes of the townspeople.
There is still time for them to do the right thing. If they don’t, we should erect a monument to their stupidity.
