To the Editor:
Maine cannot afford higher taxes and reckless government spending and neither can our country. Washington’s fiscal irresponsibility and poor economic policy has not worked.
It is time for fiscally incompetent bureaucrats and morally bankrupt politicians to stop reckless spending.
Our nation is over $14 trillion in debt. Enough is enough.
Having a healthy private sector is the key to our nation’s economy. Maine people need jobs, not over regulation and reckless spending. Unfortunately jobs are scarce right now and the unemployment rate is rising. When people need jobs Sen. Harry Reid and the Washington bureaucrats are busy clipping the private sector’s wings through higher taxes and increased regulations. Government cannot create jobs, yet it can inhibit job growth with poor policy.
While these fiscally inept politicians posture and prance for the cameras, precious jobs are leaving our country. While Harry appears out of touch with fiscal reality, real Mainers are scared about which way this economy will go. Hardworking people are clipping coupons and desperately trying to make ends meet in this brutal economy.
Sen. Harry Reid and the bureaucrats say our country has a revenue problem. Harry and the Washington cronies claim everything will be fine if the debt ceiling is increased.
I disagree. Our nation doesn’t have revenue problem, Harry and the bureaucrats have a spending problem. The key to prosperity is the private sector, local people creating local jobs. Yet corrupt politicians are inhibiting job growth with poor policy and irresponsible spending.
In the private sector people are scared and businesses are worried about what is coming next. I have yet to meet an employer who feels secure about our country’s current fiscal direction of higher taxes, irresponsible spending, and increased regulations on the private sector.
While Washington bureaucrats appear to believe everything is okay and the economy is fine, Maine people are facing higher prices at the pump and the grocery store. The private sector is struggling yet Harry wants to come after the job creators with higher taxes and more government regulations. Everyone in the private sector is cutting spending to help survive this brutal economy because money is tight and our buying power is reducing.
On the other hand Harry and the Washington bureaucrats want to continue on their reckless economic spending spree.
Why? I just don’t understand how Washington thinks they can continue with such irresponsible spending. Real people in the private sector cannot spend what they don’t have. So why do Harry and the bureaucrats seem to believe they can keep spending taxpayers’ money so recklessly? Real people in the private sector have to live within their means. Credit issuers expect to have debts repaid. Yet Harry and the Washington bureaucrats have gotten our country over $14 trillion dollars in debt and now they want the debt ceiling increased so they can continue reckless irresponsible spending, you’ve got to be kidding!
How has Washington gotten away with this?
Does Washington have a mystical credit card created by unicorns and leprechauns? Perhaps there is one in existence with no debt limit, never has to be paid, and emits rainbows at the end of every month. If there were such a card in existence, do you really think unicorns and leprechauns would trust Washington with it?
