To the editor:
As a member of the Damariscotta Budget Committee, I have had the pleasure of observing Roberta “Robin” Mayer function in her position as chair of the Damariscotta selectmen. She has consistently demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of the issues, courtesy and respect toward those with whom she might disagree, and an unflagging stewardship for the town taxpayers’ money.
Perhaps the most dramatic evidence of her commitment to fiscal responsibility has been her annual motion during the past three years’ budget-preparation proceedings to abolish or reduce the $1,500 stipend for the selectmen, motions which have never even received a second from her colleagues on the board.
Her scrutiny over the expenditure of public funds has extended to the county level in her service as Damariscotta’s representative on the Lincoln County Budget Advisory Committee. In that position, she challenged a number of components of the proposed county budget and was able to achieve reductions in proposed spending.
For these reasons, I am writing in support of Mrs. Mayer’s candidacy for the Republican nomination for the District 90 seat in the Maine House of Representatives. For the benefit of local and county taxpayers, I sincerely hope that she is successful in winning the primary election to be held next month on June 14.
