To the Editor:
I was appalled last week when I learned of Governor Paul LePage’s vulgar personal attacks on Troy Jackson. I can certainly understand why Democrats are upset by his crude behavior, though sadly we’ve all come to expect it by now. What I simply don’t understand is why Republicans aren’t positively outraged, and vigorously speaking out to reign in this abusive and apparently mentally unbalanced individual who sits at the top of their party ticket.
Hardworking Republican legislators in particular should be up in arms to see sound bipartisan legislation, including a balanced budget, vetoed again and again as LePage throws yet again another temper tantrum. I would hope that if you have no sense of shame around your Governor’s behavior you would at least let your sense of pride in your work compel you to speak out.
Last week, as I traveled around the country, it was abundantly clear this governor, elected by less than 40 percent of the people, is an embarrassment to the state of Maine and a poster child for any campaign to change Maine’s election process.
He needs to step down now, and decent-minded Republicans should take the lead in showing him to the door.
