South Bristol will observe its 100th birthday this weekend with plenty to celebrate.
From the outside looking in, South Bristol has it all. The town boasts breathtaking beauty, cool breezes, low taxes, and a stellar school.
As a news organization, we often focus on the happenings of town government. Here too, South Bristol sets the standard.
As a group, our staff attends literally hundreds of government meetings every year. We can say with some authority that South Bristol runs as well as any town in Lincoln County.
We particularly respect the way South Bristol conducts its business:
When other towns commission a study or survey, South Bristol takes action.
When other towns delegate tasks to contractors or employees, it is not unusual to see a South Bristol selectman erecting a road sign, filling a pothole, visiting a resident in need, or generally doing what needs doing quietly and without recognition.
Perhaps most importantly, the selectmen and town office staff appear to know everyone in town.
This knowledge and service grows out of a commitment to community that, in turn, comes from living in and loving one place all your life, often after your parents and their parents did the same.
There are many families in South Bristol like this, and we have an idea why.
As we think most people who live in South Bristol will tell you – and as we hear from our staffers who live there – they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
