To the editor:
I recently bought a box of freshly harvested wild blueberries.
Years back I recall spending a day raking with the hot sun burning downward.
These berries are a gentle reminder of the toil put in by the seasonal workers. Farmers working with the weather, fishermen trusting the tides.
Occasionally there is witness to this special time. Hay stacked in giant rolls across fields. Rows of corn standing high along a roadside.
A slow-moving tractor on a country road.
Cows mingling together.
A clam digger with muddy, wet boots.
The beautiful blue hue of the August berries. Happy Labor Day.
