To the Editor:
Sheena Bellows, Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate describes herself as a “libertarian progressive.”
This is confusing. Libertarians, in the political sense of the word, are Republican-like and for almost no government interference in our lives. Progressives are Democrat-like and are for BIG government. The Affordable Care Act is an example. The former espouses few rules and regulations. Let the free market work its magic. The latter espouses rules and regulations; an example would be the Environmental Protection Agency.
Libertarian and progressive ideologies are opposite. I think Ms. Bellows needs more hands-on experience before replacing Susan Collins. While a Republican Senator Collins has brokered many compromises. She does what is best for the people of Maine.
If Ms. Bellows could apply for a position to work for Senator Collins she could gain tremendous experience and when Collins retires, fill her shoes as a Republican.
