To the Editor:
Those of use who have been around the block a few times can remember an almost extinct dinosaur called “customer service”. A decades-old company (Sears) built their reputation and therefore, their business on this same work ethic.
Today, some establishments no longer value a patron’s needs or feelings. Their efforts are spent concentrating on survival in difficult times. However, there are always exceptions and, in my case, a most appreciative example.
Many people, like me, have been experiencing extremely dry air in their homes. To remedy such a climate, I chose an easy solution: the purchase of a high-capacity humidifier, which I bought at Damariscotta Hardware.
Unfortunately, when I plugged in the unit, it didn’t work. I called the store and spoke with a person regarding my problem. After a brief discussion, that “someone” said to me, “I’ll be right there.” Within minutes (despite the “oily” roads – due to the storm the previous night), Robert Gardiner, the owner of Damariscotta Hardware, was at my door. He immediately resolved my situation… my error.
Isn’t it just wonderful to have local people, local companies that still care about their customers? Yes!
Thank you again.
