To the Editor:
I commend Susan Connery and Jane Ross for submitting letters to the LCN that appeared in the Jan. 27 edition expressing their disappointment with Governor LePage’s recent “Kiss my butt” response to a reporter’s question.
Collectively they called for a public apology and wondered how one would explain such a statement to children. Ms. Connery even suggesting that the Governor enroll in a non-violent communications workshop. Both women wondered why no one else had written to the LCN regarding this statement. I, for one, agree with their views and want to support their efforts going forward to curb this harsh communication in an equitable and fair way.
Towards that objective, I openly invite Ms. Connery and Ross to join me in my outrage with the aggressive and violent communication used by another of our leaders whose every word is clearly heard around the world by all groups including minorities and especially children.
For example: statements made by President Obama in an interview with the “Today” show’s Matt Lauer on June 8, 2010 regarding his slow response to the PB oil spill in the Gulf. President Obama said, “And I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar; we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.”
On the campaign trail on June 14, 2008 in Philadelphia, Mr. Obama said “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun, because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”
Is this appropriate or acceptable speech from the Leader of the Free World? Does anyone see a pattern here; a pattern of misguided and violent speech from President Obama and oh yes, a pattern of a double standard of reporting? If this is the first time that you’ve seen these two Presidential statements, you must ask yourself, is the mainstream press reporting honestly? Or, are they omitting and shaping news stories to support their own agenda?
Ms. Connery and Ross please let me know when you would like to get started on an intervention, and may we start with the President, he’s heard around the world, and is doing more damage.
