To the Editor:
I am just a bit disturbed by the front page story of the Jan. 21 issue. (“Damariscotta woman injured after being knocked down by spooked deer,” Page 1)
If I were Kyle McKinney, I would not tell that story to anyone but very close friends.
1. She was walking her dogs without a leash.
2. She said her dogs were not under her control – evidenced by the fact that at least one of these dogs spooked and chased a deer.
3. There is a $500 fine for dogs chasing any wildlife.
The biologist, Mike Witte, did you edit his comments or did he really not make reference to any of these above statements?
I am glad Ms. McKinney is not seriously hurt, though she better rethink how or where she walks her dogs.
(Ed note: State Animal Damage Control agent Mike Witte’s comments in the story, while not printed in their entirety, were reflective of the comments he made to The Lincoln County News on the issue. He did not otherwise address any of the concerns raised above.)
