To the Editor:
I went fishing with David Rice for a few years, so I know how hard it is lugging traps around. I just can’t believe that he has been fighting to store traps on his new dock for four years. This dock is in Clark’s Cove, on the Damariscotta River, where there are already several lobster boats and an aquaculture site. (South Bristol lobsterman fights state, neighbors to store traps,” LCN, Page 1, 12/23/10)
Who was this person from DEP who permitted his dock to be built, but with the “conditions” of no trap storage? Telling someone in Maine that you can build a dock but can’t put lobster traps on it is like telling someone you can build a garage but you can’t put a car in it.
South Bristol is a fishing village, always has been, always will be. I suggest that if you don’t like the looks of lobster traps on a dock, you should change your view to someplace other than the coast of Maine.
I hope that people will take the time to call their state representatives and tell them that we want to keep Maine, Maine. We all need to put our voices together and stand up for fisherman’s rights.
