To the Editor:
I have been a Damariscotta cemetery trustee for the last 15 years. This volunteer position has been a very rewarding experience, knowing that keeping our cemeteries in excellent condition is one of basic examples of the integrity of our community.
As one of our trustees remarked at a meeting years ago, “It is the moral responsibility of towns to take care of their residents who have passed.”
The history of Damariscotta and surrounding communities lies in these sacred grounds giving all residents a chance to feel connected to their rich heritage.
As I am leaving the trustees this year, I hope that you will feel comfortable joining the two trustees to keep the effort going. I know this letter comes out after our town meeting, but please consider becoming a mentor for our loved ones.
Please give the Damariscotta Town Office a call to volunteer. Thank you.
