To the Editor:
I guess I should take my own advice, and be more vigilant.
It seems the Village Center Ordinance change I have been arguing against is on the Annual Town Meeting Warrant after all. It was part of the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance amendments that the selectmen put off.
So we are going to have the opportunity on March 30 to debate this nonsense. It should be a warm evening.
The Ordinance change and map are on the Town website (www.newcastlemaine.us). It is difficult to understand because of the technical format and it is even more so because the consequences of the changes are not discussed.
The Planning Board so far has just spoken in broad generalities about sprawl and a downtown pedestrian village, but has given little time to discuss the real consequences of the proposed changes.
I hope someone on the Planning Board has thought through the consequences and is willing to explain. I invite them to do so.
See you at Town Meeting.
