To the Editor:
Thank you for publishing the interview with Betsy Smith of EqualityMaine. (“EqualityMaine director visits local volunteers,” LCN, 10/20/11, Page 1) As one of the many volunteers collecting signatures for the 2012 marriage equality ballot initiative, I’m proud to be part of EqualityMaine’s efforts to extend marriage rights to gay and lesbian couples.
Any registered voter who hasn’t yet signed a petition and wants to sign can contact the Lincoln County Coalition for Marriage Equality to make arrangements to sign by visiting www.lincolncountycme.org online or calling 358-9852.
Members of our local group will also be collecting signatures at the polls in many towns on Election Day. We are grateful to the nearly 1000 Lincoln County voters who have already signed, and we look forward to hearing from others who support the right of all loving couples to make a lifetime commitment to each other.
