To the Editor:
This is in response to the story on the smokehouse by the South Bristol Bridge. (“South Bristol residents continue tradition at historic smokehouse,” LCN, 10/27/11, Page 1A)
When Irving Clifford passed away, his building and smokehouse went to Henry Jones who lived across the street.
Henry used to smoke many sticks of herring. They were free to all he knew and liked. I’ve seen folks try to buy them, but he refused them. The smokehouse was directly in back of the bridge house, so the smell of those herring being smoked made your mouth water.
I know this because I tended the South Bristol Bridge for over 25 years.
