We hope this Christmas season finds you warm and safe; accompanied by loved ones and fully sated with food and drink.
Christmas has come to mean so many things to so many people; these days it feels vaguely like a political question. It seems like the kind of never-ending, open debate, where every perspective has a grain of truth at its root, and what you have to say about it somehow defines you for those interested in such definitions.
At its heart though, Christmas defies all of the trappings we put on it. If you take a fully loaded Christmas tree and peel off the decorations; take away all the tinsel, the lights and the ornaments, eventually you get down to the bare tree, which was already beautiful in its own right.
We think Christmas is like that.
We decorate it however we want; we can dress it up in any religious or secular custom that suits us, but Christmas is already whole and it doesn’t need what we add to it to be beautiful.
At is core, Christmas is a day for love and loved ones.
The original story of the Christmas we have come to know is that God so loved the world He gave his only begotten Son to save all mankind.
Today some may measure Christmas love in terms of the trading of purchased gifts. Others may define love by the feelings that lead them to purchase or make a gift for another. Still others may define it as a thing that requires no gifts at all; it is the gathering of the tribe that makes the occasion.
We like to savor Christmas for what it is; a celebration of love, be it religious or secular.
We hope you enjoy your Christmas. May it be the happiest and the merriest you have ever had, only to be outdone, again, next year.
