As we gather to celebrate the Christmas holiday this week, each according to our own customs, we take a minute to savor the Christmas spirit.
At its heart, Christmas is a religious holiday, but the concepts of peace on earth and goodwill toward men are not exclusive. It is not required to be religious to embrace the spirit of the season, and the sprit is not dependent on spending money.
Modern America has largely turned Christmas into a secular holiday, but when people talk about extending the Christmas spirit year-round, what they are talking about is savoring the shared joy of giving, of doing for others.
Sales and holidays come and go but a gift well given continues to reward both the giver and the receiver.
We wish a merry Christmas to you and yours this holiday season.
