To the Editor:
My wife and I came home Monday from a visit with our kids to discover that someone had come into our home and stole around $1200 from us. It was more than just money. My wife nearly died in a motorcycle accident (which I witnessed) two years ago.
Her pelvis was shattered among many other injuries. She spent a month in the hospital and then two more in a rehab that summer and fall just to get healthy enough to come home. She has worked very little in the past two years. She has had numerous operations including six this past February and March during a three-week stay at Maine Medical Center.
After a couple of weeks of bed rest at home she had an appointment with her surgeon who told us she was healing and gave her permission to go to Florida so we could visit with our two children. We had a great visit and on our flight home we discussed this summer’s plans and the fact that she had basically lost the last two summers. She still has to have her left knee rebuilt in the fall and is very limited on what she is able to do.
We decided to purchase a boat in view of the fact that we both love the water and boating is something she would be able to do. I had saved around $1200 in quarters over the last few years and we were going to use them to help buy the boat, that is, until someone decided they needed the quarters more than we did.
You see, in my eyes, you stole more than just the money; you stole a summer of anticipated fun from someone who really didn’t deserve that.
If by chance, you have a conscience, you can still do the right thing and return the money. You know where we live.
