To the Editor:
I am disturbed by the email from the office to town email list. First of all I have been involved in this town since 1988 when I came in to see about working off my past taxes. In turn I was asked to be the town clerk when Lisa Bailey gave it up. I had been her deputy over a year. I had to give up my job in 2000 when I broke my shoulder. I was hired as the deputy in August of 2008, when I came to work off taxes I couldn’t pay.
This town has been on the front page of the papers for how many years now? I count two. What is it with people who come here to live because they don’t like where they came from. They come here and think this little town should be run like a big city. It doesn’t work that way here.
We trust our neighbors and have never been sorry for it. I have worked under many sets of selectmen, and not one of them has been crooked. Yes, some I have had a hard time with and I will be the first to admit it. Not one of them was or is crooked.
I am tired of these people who want to change everything in town. If they sat where I sit, they could see our officials are out for what is best and cost less for the town.
I understand the folks in this town who were born and live here need to step up at town meeting this year. They are accusing our neighbors of cheating the town. That is not true.
They want to take Chris Cooper out as our moderator. He is fair, gives everyone their chance to speak and keeps the heated discussions from becoming a battle. Yes, he throws in humor to keep the crowd awake, sometimes, but that’s OK too.
Voting is Fri., March 18 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Town Meeting is at 1 p.m. Saturday. I hope everyone who wants to keep our town the way we like it, get out to vote and come on Saturday to help save our honest men from the front page again this week.
Sorry no news from my folks, but felt I had to have my say about our selectmen being accused of partiality and wrongdoing. I will be back to my regular column next week. Have a good one.
