As we approach New Year’s Day, we find ourselves thinking about resolutions.
The most common resolutions seem to focus on our bodies. Lose weight. Quit smoking. Exercise more. Admirable goals all.
Some of us will set goals to change other habits or improve how we interact with others. To be a better parent, child, sibling, or friend. To repair a relationship. These goals can be equally admirable – and equally challenging – although perhaps more difficult to measure.
We like Dave Ricker’s suggestions in his letter to the editor on this page, “Every act helps.” His simple recommendations would go a long way to improve our daily lives. Say nice things to others. Place the interests of others before our own.
It can be tempting, with all the talk of resolutions, to make a few for others. We can think of no one in need of our recommendations more than our representatives in Augusta and Washington, D.C.
If they’re listening, here are our suggestions: Listen. Work together. Forget about parties.
Here at The Lincoln County News, we resolve to continue to bring our readers the most comprehensive, timely, and trustworthy news of Lincoln County.
A certain LCN editor often says – usually upon receipt of a correction from a sheepish reporter – “We haven’t printed a perfect paper yet.” But that won’t stop us from trying.
From all of us at The Lincoln County News, happy new year – and good luck with the resolutions.
