To the Editor:
When I signed the petition to develop a five member assessors’ board last fall, my only stipulation was that it would not cost anything to do this.
Now that I learn the board will in fact be paid, and in addition to this, we will now have a five-member board of selectmen, I feel the assessors’ board should not, I repeat, not, be passed by secret ballot, on March 19.
A five-member board of selectmen should be adequate to perform the task of assessing, as up until now it was adequately done by three selectmen.
The most important task the selectmen should have right now is to use some good common sense in controlling town spending.
