To the Editor:
Please print the following as an open letter to our four representatives to the Congress;
Dear Sir/Madam,
All four of you should be embarrassed that you voted for the pork-bloated joke masquerading as a “stimulus” bill. The Congressional Budget Office says that it will not do what Congress proclaims it will. The president changes his tune almost daily as to how many jobs it will create. It is a waste of taxpayers and borrowers money.
Congress voted to put it on the Internet for 48 hours-that didn’t happen, so someone lied. Who would that be, and why didn’t one of you scream “Stop”? We were told the bill had to be rushed through because of the economic conditions-again an untruth.
It would have been better to address how to really help the economy. This might have taken more time, but would have produced far better results.
Some of you said that there were items in the bill that should not be there, but should go through the regular appropriations channels. Were all those items removed? Others said they were “unaware” certain items were in the bill.
All of you should have demanded that excess pork and spending unrelated to “stimulus” be removed. Instead, some of you chose expediency over principle.
I am willing to bet all four of you $10 each that you did not read the bill before voting on it. If you can look me in the eye and tell me that you did, then I will gladly pay up. However, if you did not read the entire bill before voting, there are no excuses.
Shame on you, and please remit the $10. It will be sent to whoever opposes you in your next re-election bid, regardless of which party you belong to.
I am not holding my breath while waiting for a response.
Steve Maclachlan, Bremen
