To the Editor:
Apparently a number of elver fishermen in Maine are making thousands of dollars, reporting far less money earned and applying for and receiving welfare. Since being elected, Governor Paul LePage has attempted to do something about welfare fraud in the state of Maine.
Now comes our State Senator Chris Johnson, D-Somerville, co-chairman of the Legislature’s Marine Resource Committee, saying fraud should not be tolerated on one hand and on the other hand saying they should not be prosecuted. They should be warned, “I think we need to let them know that this is not acceptable and it will be prosecuted before we start ruining people’s lives over it.”
Sorry Senator but they all know it is illegal and they will continue doing it. Either we prosecute all committing welfare fraud or none. As for ruining their lives, they are the only ones responsible for that.
This is one more example of a Democrat buying more votes. I am sure a lot of those elver fishermen will be voting for him next election.
