To the Editor:
On November 20, 2009, Great Salt Bay Community School had its first H1N1 (swine flu) vaccination clinic for children in our school, whose parents had pre-registered. We had approximately 160 students receive the vaccination in two hours. This type of event does not go smoothly without the support of many parents and community members, who gave of their time to our students.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sunny Kirkham, our school nurse, for facilitating the clinic; AOS 93 school nurses Linda Cosgrove and Diane Lazzari, for their expertise and organizational skills; Michele York, AOS 93 Health Advisor, for her assistance with pre-planning and her support on the day of the clinic; Rebecca Tilden, GSB PTO President, for organizing parent volunteers to assist our students to and from classes; plus the healthcare professionals, who administered the vaccinations; our parent volunteers; our custodians; Michele Brown, a GSB secretary, who assisted at the clinic with the paperwork; and AOS 93 leadership.
We had so many people helping at the clinic that it was amazing. Everyone gave it 100 percent and we were overwhelmed with gratitude. On behalf of the students and staff at Great Salt Bay, we thank you for your service to our school.
