Mid-Coast Energy Systems Inc. is only the latest victim to fall prey to a stealth “flocking” courtesy the Waldoboro Fire Dept. Our reporting of the fundraising fun this week is intended in the spirit of the occasion.
On a more serious note, we commend the members of the Waldoboro Fire Dept. for making it their goal to privately raise every penny of the funds necessary for their 175th anniversary celebration in 2013.
It wouldn’t surprise us in the least if Waldoboro taxpayers feel inclined to kick in a little municipal money somewhere along the way, particularly in light of the current good faith effort by their firefighters, but we encourage the department’s self-reliance.
As we all know, times are hard and starting a couple of years ahead of time is a smart move by the department’s members. A little here and a little there and they might be able throw a whale of a party when the time comes.
Then, there still will be plenty of time to get started on their bicentennial plans.
