To the Editor:
Over the past few weeks having read the various articles and letters written about fireworks usage, I wish to add the following perspective.
My family property and cottage in Jefferson has always enjoyed a peaceful and serene quality in the evening until the new fireworks law. Evenings sitting on my dock listening to the natural sounds of the lake and shore are now interrupted. Please note that my property tax dollars paid each year has always allowed me to enjoy this solitude at night: money well spent.
I feel, that as a taxpaying landowner and one who enjoys their quiet evenings along the shore, it is I who has had my rights altered, affected and taken away.
Fireworks can be intrusive. So to be fair to all who enjoy each of their properties in different ways, the freedom to set off fireworks needs to be thoughtfully regulated with a fairness extended to all property owners’ concerns.
