To the Editor:
For those that side with Mr. Craig Elliott’s sarcastic appreciation of Damariscotta’s attempt to maintain its individuality, I am puzzled as to why you would sell your lifestyle so cheaply. (“Thank you Damariscotta,” LCN, 8/8/13, Page 13A)
Walmart was not a good idea; bad for ambiance and wildlife, bad for local store owners, bad for traffic, bad for mental picture of Damariscotta (try saying charming New England town and Walmart in the same sales pitch), bad for planet footprint…the list goes on.
We do not pay over-inflated prices patronizing the local vendors we already have. I am disappointed in those that would wish to threaten merchants who have treated this community with pride and loyalty for so many years.
