Serve Your Community
To the Editor:
I strongly believe that each citizen has an obligation to give back to the town in return for the services the town provides. The task of being a selectman has gotten a bad rap. Positions have been created to do many of the duties that formerly were done by selectmen.
The town is fortunate to have a good town administrator and a responsible, knowledgeable tax assessor.
There are going to be two vacancies on the board of selectmen and one vacancy representing Newcastle on the school committee. Nomination papers are available in the town office and, with diligence, there is time to turn them in before the April 27 deadline.
If someone doesn’t step up and go through the nomination process, the town is required to keep holding elections until someone is elected. This could be costly for the town and we all agree we do not need increased expense.
Please feel the sense of civic responsibility and get your papers in to the town office by the deadline so you can serve Newcastle.
