To the Editor:
I was appalled to read several postings by the Walter Hilton family on Facebook this weekend concerning their grandson’s having to be transferred from Great Salt Bay School due to bullying and assault.
The galling part is that his parents moved from Richmond so that he could attend Great Salt Bay because of its reputation for having an excellent faculty and educational program. What good is an excellent school if the students are afraid to go to school because a few aggressive little snots are allowed to get away with abusing other students?
The Hilton’s claim their grandson was pushed into the bushes and had his glasses broken. Where is the schoolboard? Why wasn’t the Damariscotta Police Department involved?
I lived in Damariscotta from 1968 through 1982, during which time Damariscotta took great pride in building a modern up to the minute school, which earned the reputation of being excellent.
What a pity this is all for naught when some students have to fear for their well being while at school. Shame, shame Principal and School board. You need to address this problem and right now.
